Bonsai For Beginners

Bonsai for BeginnersBonsai for beginners is simply learning the basics of tree care. Do not water bonsai just before repotting; it is difficult to remove the old soil if it is too wet. New soil must be dry and generally is a mixture of clay, peat moss, leaf mold and sand, in equal parts. Much of the soil components should be sifted in order to separate the different sized particles.

The most necessary tools and materials are as follows:

Sharp scissors, a round brush, pointed chopstick, wire clippers, watering can (preferably one with fine spray), copper wire in a range of sizes, string, and dried and powdered moss which has grown on rock, i.e. a low growing moss.

The important ten steps:

1. Take tree out of container and clean out container with brush.

2. Prepare container. If the root mass of the bonsai will fill one-half to two-thirds of the space in the container after roots are trimmed, use copper wire to tie the tree in place. Arrange wire; tie (later). If the root system is small, it is better to tie with string after the repotting is finished.

3. Loosen the soil of the root mass. Use chopstick to loosen up the outer one-third of the soil of the root mass. Also loosen soil of the underside of the root mass (approximately the lower third).

4. Trim roots. Use large sharp scissors and cut away the outer third of the fibrous mass; also cut off about half of the roots on the underside. A little tree should not be repotted if it does not have a tightly packed root system, that is, if it is not completely "pot bound."

5. Position tree in container. Place tree in center if the container is round or square, and one-third in from the end if a rectangular or oval container.

6. Bonsai for beginners involves getting new soil in around the roots. This is done by rapid jabbing with a chopstick. The soil should not be pressed down by hand. Only the chopstick can make the soil go into the spaces between the roots. The jabbing motion should not be to the same depth each time. That is to say, the first motion should go down deep, and the next time a little shallower than before, etc. Also jab sideways as well as straight down. Generally speaking, this jabbing motion takes time. As the soil works down in and disappears, during the jabbing, constantly add more-until no more is needed.

7. Tie tree to container. Wires must be pulled up first then drawn together over the root mass, and twisted tight.

8. Brush away excess soil. If the surface soil is higher than the rim of the container, all the water will run off when the tree is sprinkled. Keep soil one-quarter inch lower than the side of the container. It is desirable to insert a protective rubber strip between wire and roots, so the wire will neither contact nor cut into the roots. Visible wire may be cut away after one growing season.

9. At this point only one finishing touch is needed. Spread a very thin layer of topsoil over the surface of the soil already in the container, and sprinkle dried powdered moss, through the fingers, onto the topsoil.

10. Water. Place the newly planted bonsai container in a tub of water in which the water level is the same depth as the container. At the same time, gently water from above.

Are you always looking for ways to relax? Have people told you that you need to find a hobby that will keep you busy? Have you watched television shows where people are constantly fusing over Bonsai Trees and wondered why? Well, it turns out that these trees are a part of bonsai relaxation that helps people stay relaxed and peaceful.

Bonsai trees are those funny looking green trees that in some places people sell on the street. They are easy to grow and the point of bonsai relaxation is to use them to create a relaxing atmosphere in your home or work. You do this by learning to prune them in special ways.

You can find these plants in many different places and usually people buy more than one. You can often get a discount at some places when you buy them in bulk. When you have the opportunity to work with several trees it can create bonsai relaxation easily.

There are many benefits to bonsai relaxation that include:

You can't rush -- taking care of these trees automatically puts you into a meditative state because you can't rush through them. You have to be careful because they are delicate.

This is an art form -- if you take your time, you are developing a hobby and creating a space for your creative abilities to shine through. As you develop your artistic ability you also benefit from bonsai relaxation.

You will discover new things -- all meditation will help you discover new things about yourself and with bonsai relaxation you will discover areas that you didn't explore before when you were tense.

Bonsai relaxation can be started with one tree, but many people say this is addictive. They like having more than one because they can sculpt to their hearts content and no one will bother them.

Although you may not know it, bonsai trees are actually the natural formation of trees in Japan, but they are grown in the smaller containers. They are flexible and easy to sculpt. And less face it, they are much better than growing a Chia Pet.

If you wonder why it is called a bonsai tree, the mystery is solved: the word really means tree planted in a tray. Bonsai relaxation trees come in outdoor or indoor varieties.

Many enthusiasts today are discovering the beauty of the Bonsai miniature rose tree. When in full bloom, roses are very beautiful. Surprisingly they aren't as fragile when it comes to growing as individuals might believe. Bonsai miniature roses grow from five inches in height. In fact, some species will reach an even greater height. At any rate, growing these flowers can be quite pleasurable.

You will need to pay special attention to miniature roses if you want to grow them inside. They will most likely need more light than a sunny window will give them. Bonsai miniature roses will show if they are getting enough sunlight through the stems. More sun is needed if the stems look as though they are reaching out. You will be able to see wide spacing between the leaves.

As with many flowers, these roses require a great deal of moisture when theyre kept indoors. To provide humidity simply place the container of miniature roses in a bowl or a tray of pebbles and water. The small stones will keep the container above the water level which will prevent the soil from becoming soggy or waterlogged. When it slowly evaporates the water will provide the roses with extra humidity. However, if the house is really dry the owner can occasionally use a mist vaporizer.

Pests are likely to infect Bonsai miniature rose plants both indoors and outdoors. Whiteflies and spider mites commonly are drawn to indoor roses. By washing the tops and undersides of each leave, one can reduce the chances or even completely avoid damaging pests. To protect against whiteflies in particular, its best to use pest insecticide soap on the plants at least once a week. These products contain alcohol, which means that you must keep the Bonsai miniature roses out of light until the alcohol has completely dried.

In the event your roses are attacked and you have other plants, make sure to separate them to prevent the pests from going after them as well. Also, if the attack is severe enough you can cut a portion of the miniature roses back. It will re-grow and sometimes even take on a fuller appearance. Beautiful rose blooms can be achieved by using a fertilizer with a very high potassium content. You should mix the fertilizer with water to a strength and use it at least once every week.

Many people who grow miniature roses alternate between indoor and outdoor growing, according to the seasons. This can be beneficial, due to the pests that they are prone to. Bonsai miniature roses that are grown in containers outdoors have a tendency to lose moisture quickly. Miniature roses are able to fare well planted in gardens.

This variety of rose is new to the indoor gardening world, but is gaining in popularity. People are quick to realize how simple they are to care for. Bonsai miniature rose plants are attractive to look at and have blooms that produce a pleasant aroma.
